I’m excited to announce that starting today, Beer Crunchers is adding a paid subscription option for its biggest supporters. This blog started nine years ago, but the last 18 months have been spent here on Substack proving that I can keep up with a consistent posting schedule. I feel I’ve demonstrated that and while it’s a ton of work, I’ve never enjoyed it more. What you’ve seen thus far is still only a small fraction of the potential and by adding a financial incentive, accountability to my subscribers, and a budget to bring in collaborators and other resources, the bar will continue to be raised. Both yours and mine.
The goal of Beer Crunchers is to provide unique perspectives from inside the beer and beverage industry with a focus on business, strategy, trends and data. By creating dialogue around fascinating industry topics and applying an unusual combination of experience in beer distribution, as a craft brewery CFO, and now CMO, each post strives to add new layers of context and well-rounded thinking that will help readers spark fresh ideas, discover newfound motivation, and make better long-term decisions.
Pricing a premium subscription service was a big struggle. I love to thread the needle between being relevant to casual fans of the industry, in addition to those in leadership roles. Unfortunately, those are two vastly different price points so I’ve landed somewhere in between. The plan is to continue to make plenty of posts free (say, half?), including recurring series like Social Media Standouts and News Reactions. The higher degree of difficulty thought pieces on strategy and personal stories will require being a premium subscriber at a rate of $199.99/year going forward. Interested in a group subscription for your organization? E-mail me at doug@beercrunchers.com, let me know me know how many and I can send through a significant discount.
My hope is that for many of you, I’ve already added at least that much value in the past, making this feel like less of a risk. For those who are new or have not realized the benefit yet, I completely understand and I hope you’ll stick around and surf through the back catalog to see what Beer Crunchers is all about. Later this week, I’m going to be posting Episode 3 of Beer Data Wars focusing on how a small to mid-size brewery might use scan data, so look for that to drop soon. Thank you for all of the support and trust over the years. The best is yet to come.
