It’s hard to believe that we’re two-thirds of the way through beer’s toughest month, now with more NA and THC-themed campaigns pushing consumers toward their New Years resolutions than ever.
They are typically credited as being the first to use them and I believe coining the term along with it. They also patented the Crowler, with Ball Corp.
Noted. But "crowler" has clearly become common nomenclature for a 32-oz can filled/seamed to order. Stovepipe seems like it could fit the same role for the 19.2-oz can. 16-oz cans used to be called tallboys but then became the de facto standard can for craft. I just don't see the term "Nineteen Two" taking off.
You won't see breweries branding their crowlers as "crowlers" because Oskar Blues / Ball has the patent/trademark. My point is that they were innovators in the packaging format world, which few can say. They were ahead of their time. I don't like the word stovepipe in part because I attribute it to them and like letting it be their thing. If people choose to call it that, that's fine, but its a fairly small minority that do at this point so I don't think it's going to happen and is wide open for everyone to come up with their own clever name.
I'm curious why you think Oskar Blues should own the term "stovepipe"?
